Unhappy EDID works with other driver not with new? options?

Dell laptop inspiron 8200 - Fedora7 - "NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9639-pkg1.run"

There's a problem with the EDID not reporting the correct size of 1600x1200 and defaulting back to 1400x1050-there are a few hundred pixel on the right that show as colored vertical lines and a few hundred pixels on the bottom that are a mirror of the top. I've tried options to not use the EDID and added modlines (taken from the working "nv" driver bug report), the screen is a white/pink blur if I do that.looks like it might be damaging the screen?

also tried 'modprobe nvidia NVreg_softEDIDs=0 NVreg_Moblie=1'

I've been through the readme a few times and i think I've tried everything? This is my last resort.. but the nv driver works great? Winderz also works fine at 1600x1200 60Hz. I've even flashed the video bios.

Works in NV driver:

(--) NV(0): CRTC 1 is currently programmed for DFP
(II) NV(0): Using DFP on CRTC 1
(--) NV(0): Panel size is 1600 x 1200
(II) NV(0): Panel is LVDS

(II) NV(0): Estimated virtual size for aspect ratio 1.3333 is 1600x1200
(II) NV(0): Clock range: 12.00 to 350.00 MHz

doesn't work with the new driver:
