Well, that would be retina actually, but the idea that sitting too close to a TV damages your eyes is a myth. The same with reading in the dark, as that just causes eyestrain but has no chance at causing permanent damage.

The only thing you can do that can damage your eyesight, short of gouging your eyes out, is staring at extremely bright light for too long. And I mean very bright light, staring at a 60w bulb won't even do it.
