Thx for the reply. Actually, I did work thru the Readme - all 100+ pages! I guess I missed that detail. So . . .

Initially, I tried to just use the nvidia driver (100.14.11 with the 2.6.21 kernel) and Xorg with *no* Xgl. I would actually prefer that. It seemed to work except that when I did a shutdown from KDE the entire system totally locked up. Only way to shut it down was a hard reset at the power switch. That's a bad.

You wouldn't by chance know why that is, and how to fix that???

I can work around it by opening another X session (Ctrl-Alt-F2) and issuing a shutdown from there, but that is a sledge-hammer solution, not to speak of it being a pain in the a**.
