The 0248 (modified Intel i8x0) driver worked
very nicely for me. The 0248 package must still be around on the nvidia site (in fact, last time I checked it seemed to have replaced 0248 again, that was the reason for my 2nd post in this thread).

Haven't tested anything but stereo either, though.

I think the 48k problem can be worked around by using a sound server like KDE's Arts. (Sox is able to resample sounds, soo). However, this is not what I want. Anyway, the old driver allowed different sample rates, why doesn't the new one?
