Being the sceptic I am, would you mind giving out the details? What application(s) gain the best performance boost? What architectures were the executables compiled for?
I understand that compiling for i686 or x86_64 will give you an edge over i386 for certain (multimedia related) tasks, but generally speaking... I haven't really experimented with "ordinary" applications.
