Sorry, when people start swearing in their help requests it just puts me in a off mood.
Given the purposely vague error message that you received, and that using a trail version of dvd software fixes things, I expect you are having a codec issue.

Which basically states, that you need to install a dvd decoder codec installed (like powerdvd).
However, I seem to remember that MCE has a dvd decoder codec with it (I could be wrong), to check, this application should work under vista
