Unfortunately this (probably empty) threat is exactly why NVidia can get away with this. ATI takes
forever to support new cards (I want to say it was months with the 2900 series) and once you get it working chances are the driver quality won't be as good anyway. Though I do have to say the new 8.42 drivers are a pretty big step up from their old ones in some ways.
In any case, until there's sufficient market for Linux video cards to justify some real competition for our business this is likely to be something we have to tolerate.
