Default Can't get 1680x1050 on my FX5500--help?

I've got a 256M GeForce FX5500 on my Ubuntu Gutsy (7.10) system, using the proprietary nVidia drivers installed via the restricted drivers utility, version 1.0-9639. Today I purchased a Samsung SynchMaster 206BW LCD monitor, rated at 1680x1050 pixels. I've got it connected using the DVI connector.

However, I can't get the nVidia to drive the monitor at full capacity; the best I can get is 1440x900. I've found a web log which said that they had success driving the monitor at 1680x1050@60MHz by adding:
Code:
Option "ModeValidation" "NoMaxPClkCheck"
to my xorg.conf file, which I did; but it didn't make any difference. I also added
Code:
Option "UseEdidFreqs" "False"
which also didn't seem to help.

I've attached my nvidia-bug-report output; can anyone give me any advice on this? Apparently other people have gotten this to work so I'm still hopeful I can as well...?
