A little. But the advantages are in favor of it. First off, software raid is faster, unless you go for a really high end raid card, with a lot of onboard memory. Secondly, it's much cheaper. What you loose is hot swapping (but then, not every hw raid card supports it either), and some more ease of use (that is, you have to configure it in software, 4-5 commands from the shell, big deal)...
