I agree, it has to be an issue of sorts. I have been using Kaspersky, NOD32 and Kaspersky Enterprise for my company and never had any of them run slow(I use Kaspersky solely at home and recommend it over NOD32 for its ease of use for newbies).

If your trying to use your computer for music, movies, gaming etc it WILL slow down your scan for any AV application. Initially when you start Kaspersky it will give you a fairly long read it and as it reads/scans the drive it will provide you with a more accurate reading. Usual scans are from 30-60 minutes on machines averaging 100-250GB hdd's at about 50% capacity.
