Aside from the capacity being better on blu-ray, HD-DVD was clearly a better format due to blu-ray having difficulties with 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 versions of blu-ray where some 1.1 players couldn't update to 1.2 or 1.3. 1.3 requires internet access as one of the features which hd-dvd had implemented at the start.
