The 9 max 6 min is the CPU multiplier. Your E6600 multiplier is 9 (9x266=2.4ghz)but can be lowered to use higher fsb's(8x400=3.2ghz) for example. I would leave the cpu multi at 9.
Do you see a number below the cpu multiplier? You may have to enable something called CPU host control or somehing like that. I can't remember what my bios says. When I enable that, the fsb is shown and then I can raise or lower that number. You should have detailed info of all your bios settings in the manual that came with your mb.
