It will depend largely on the settings and games. I've ran 3 way GTX SLI with a Phenom CPU with no trouble whatsoever and seen great scaling. It just depends on your application bottleneck and GPU settings. If your game is already limited by the CPU at your settings. Then additional GPU power will do you know good whatsoever. But if your limited by the GPU. Your range could vary greatly. The best way to determine your bottleneck is to do some resolution scaling and see if your gaining performance as you drop the GPU workload.
