It's the same with overheating... The card powers off to prevent damage... It also powers off when not receiving enough power... It's a new thing I guess, instead of shutting the whole system down and cause corruption, it gives you a chance to power off the system using the on/off button (which shuts down everything in a hurry if you push it during Windows usage)...
