Default 177.xx: Enabling kwin composition leaks memory.

Hello all,

I'm testing KDE 4.1 on two of my workstations.
In both cases, once I enable kwin composition (AKA "effects") I experience a major performance hit, followed by a major memory leak (according to .xsession-errors [attached]) that more-or-less kills X after a while. (By slowing it down to death)
While noticeably slower, I cannot reproduce this bug when using the latest stable driver. (v173.14.09)

Just in case, I reported the bug upstream [1], but the KDE devs pointed a finger at nVidia.
