It seems, like when you resolve the samples, you end with 1x2 SS, like you said. With SLI AA 16x, you have 4 texture samples, like when you use SSAA 2x2. So this mode is really interesting.
The information on that webpage is only correct for the SLI 8x mode. All the other SLI 8x implementations are exclusive to the Geforce 7 series. SLI 32xQ is is 16xQ CSAA with the 1x2 SS component. While SLI 64S ((OpenGL)) has more texture samples taken. With the geforce 8 the way SLIAA was done has been changed,
