That is the way I understand it ,If you have a motherboard that has PCIe 1.0 is should use 75watts at the slot and a M.B with a PCIe 2.0 can use up to 150 watts at the slot. then the 6pin plug on the GTX 280 should draw up to around 75 watts and the 8 pin plug should handle up to 150 watts.
