I have a 32" toshiba 1080 and a 47"phillips 1080. On the phillips I can select 120hz, and I promise you that if I don't watching close ups in a football game will blur really bad.

I turn it off for when I am watching a move, or pretty much everything else because, as you mentioned, the picture quality is better with it off.

For some people the motion blur is not an issue, but it drives me nuts. Then again there are some that thing every channel they get is in HD because they bought an expensive tv.
