Default help a linux gumbie figure this out!

Hi Guys,

Im new to linux, sick and tired of viruses from windows so i made the transition.... i must say i am impressed!....

Anyhow... I am trying to setup the NVIDIA graphic driver for my gforce4 and i have downloaded the updated driver from nvidia.com ( NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4 496-pkg2.run )

My Problems are...

1. I need to close all X applications... I figure this to mean KDE... I figured out a dodgey way to close KDE, (ALT-CTRL-F1) or something like that... firstly, what is the bext way to exit kde and return to the console?

2. Once I had as root ran the following...

"sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4 496-pkg2.run"

it didn't work... it ran.... but it failed... I am wondering If I have the right driver....

I am running Suse 8.2 on a p4 2.4 - 800mb ram and so on...

Any ideas.... i'm currently in 1024x768 and its annoying!!!

also... where is this sudoers file and how do I add a user to that? (i know its off topic, but I am a newbie and need all the help i can get)...

Muchly Appreicated...

John
