Default Re: "stable" 180.22 driver breaks X start

OK.

I did:
> cat /var/log/messages | grep -a --text -B2 -A2 NVRM

About the 180.22 I get this:

Jan 8 20:36:27 robs kernel: ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [APC6] enabled at IRQ 16
Jan 8 20:36:27 robs kernel: nvidia 0000:02:00.0: PCI INT A -> Link[APC6] -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
Jan 8 20:36:27 robs kernel: NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 180.22 Tue Jan 6 09:15:58 PST 2009
Jan 8 20:36:27 robs kernel: DVB: registering frontend 0 (DiBcom 3000M-B DVB-T)...
Jan 8 20:36:27 robs kernel: dibusb: This device has the Thomson Cable onboard. Which is default.

No error message at all.

I will try disabling "dri" later today.... Does the nvidia not use the DRI infrastructure at all? (Will it affect desktop performance if I disable dri?)

thanks.
