After trying to start X, do /dev/nvidiactl and /dev/nvidia0 exist?
I ran X this time, and I'm including updated files as requested. The error seems to have changed:
(EE) Failed to load module "type1" (module does not exist, 0)
NVIDIA: could not open device file /dev/nvidia0 (Input/output error).
..
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

I am able to insmod the nvidia module fine. I reinstalled the OS a few times and I'm back to 32-bit Mythbuntu which is what I actually want running on this box. Please let me know what other information you need or anything you'd like to try.
