Default Re: Failed to initialize the Nvidia Kernel Module!

I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring here too...

I have been trying to install 180.22 on a Dell XPS M1530 - 8600GT - on Linux Ubuntu 64-bit. With the same problems as mentioned. I got the "failed to initialize Kernel module" error initially on reboot after installing. Install appeared successful from the NVidia install package end. After the first failed to initialize error I now get an error in the middle of boot with a few screens that will allow me to try to debug the error or to use the default configuration (Ubuntu drivers) and then the system boots in with these. When I try to trace the error sources I find that I come up with a missing "type 1". I think this was in the xorg.conf from memory.

As for improper uninstalling causing this problem - I downloaded Nvidia's 180.17 and installed it in exactly the same way (I didn't pre-uninstall anything). The installer package recognized previous drivers and initiated it's own uninstall routines and it installed perfectly first time - no glitches.

I still want to get 180.22 working so any help would be much appreciated.
