Default 285 too much for CoolerMaster 600 Watts eXtreme Power PSU?

Hey all,

I just upgraded to the Nvidia SSC EVGA 285 GTX. I bought this rather than the 295 because the minimum system specs put the psu requirements for that card over what I currently have.

I got the 285 (min. system recs. 550 Watt Power Supply) and installed it on my system and my computer chugs big time with the card in. Prior to this I had a 8800gt in there that worked like a dream. I'm wondering if the card is drawing too much power which is causing both the card and my cpu to slow down. Any advice?

Card:
EVGA SSC 285 Gtx

My Rig's Specs:
Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz 1066FSB 8MB L2 Cache 64-bit
CoolerMaster Unit 600 Watts eXtreme Power
6 GB Corsair Dominator 8500 RAM

Other things which might draw my power:
24x standard Sony DVD/CD-R
Soundblaster Audigy
Motherbard - EVGA nForce 680i SLI Chipset LGA775 FSB1333 DDR2 Mainboard
CoolerMaster Hyper TX2 Gaming CPU Cooling Fan
