Unhappy nvidia driver & debian

Hi everybody,

I'm currently facing a problem, which I find quite puzzling. When I try and compile the driver under Debian Woody 3.0r0, it tells me that I'm compiling it with a compiler different from the one used to build the distro. Therefore it stops. I have already modified an environment variable, CC, from which the problem seemed to come from. It now points towards gcc 3 but it has changed nothing. Could someone help me, please ?

My computer is a Sony Vaio PCG-GRT785B, PIV 2.66 GHz, videocard NVidia GeForce4 420 Go. I'm trying to run Woody 3.0r0, with the latest nvidia packages (1.0-4496). The kernel is 2.20-idepci ( 2.4 doesn't work, neither does it with debian nor with mandrake...). Thank you for your help
Sony VAIO PCG-GRT785B with PIV 2.66 GHz 512 MB RAM and GeForce4 420 Go -> works great with XP but not at all with Linux
