Default Problems installing the 1.0-4496 driver

As the topic said...
The problem is that I'm a rather green newbee to linux so I really don't know what to do...

So, I am using the ASP linux(russian RedHat 9.0 clone ) . XFree86 4.3.0
Kernel 2.4.20 etc + GF5600 from XFX. As I install the driver package, everything is OK. The kernekl interfaces are compiled, everything perfect. All files appear to be where they should be.
But: my config manager can't sees the driver. The only option for NV30 was nv driver with GEForceFX generic support. And when I try to change my XF86Config to use the nvidia driver(following the README) I get a total crash with funny symbol waste on a screen. System doesn't react anymore.

Thank you for you incoming advices... really need OpenGL...

BTW. I run AthlonXP 1800+ on A EPOX ERDA3(I guess it's correct).
