I think what killed the C&C series for me was how they turned them into B-movies.

I played C&C and Red Alert back in the day and they were stylish, somewhat realistic yet set on a different time line.

Tiberian Sun went too far with the ridiculous vehicles and technology, Red Alert 2 took it even farther (though the game itself seemed to work much better). The gameplay and overall feeling of Generals seemed more like the old games, even though it didn't have full motion video cut scenes or the traditional interface.

All the things I've heard about RA3 have really put me off of C&C in general.
