Upgraded to Kubuntu 8.10, booted the h/w driver app, installed and activated the 180.x driver for my 8800GT card
Rebooted the machine and the Kubuntu hangs during the reboot with the following message:
HDIO_DRIVE_CMD failed: Input/output error
it hangs trying to stop ntpd
