Default Re: (Ubuntu) NVIDIA drivers >177 don't work

The Ubuntu nvidia packages have a very bad habit of leaving behind their modules. Uninstall any Ubuntu nvidia packages using synaptic or apt as well as your manually installed driver with

Code:
sudo /usr/bin/nvidia-installer --uninstall
Once that's done go ahead and reboot and reset to default configuration which will use the nv driver.

After you've done that do a search for any remaining copies of nvidia.ko , once you've rm'ed those copies you should be able to install the driver again manually and be good to go.

Just remember every time you're upgrading the driver manually always always always run

Code:
sudo /usr/bin/nvidia-installer --uninstall
first before installing the new driver.

Good luck to you!
