Default Blank screen after logging out on Debian sid using driver 173.14.18.

Hi guys, I've got a bit of a problem here. I was having some problem with Debian squeeze so I did a full-upgrade to sid wich fixed some irritating stuff (and now just letting it get back to testing) but now there's a problem I'm unable to fix. I have a GeForce FX5200 graphics card so I'm using the legacy driver 173.14.18 wich is the driver required by my card and also the one required by the version of xserver-xorg-core form sid I'm now on (1.6.1). Installation goes just fine and I let the nvidia installer script update my xorg.conf. After restarting x again with /etc/init.d/gdm start all is fine but when I log out from the desktop all I get is a blank screen. Keyboard doesn't work and the only thing left to is a hard reboot. I've looked at the gdm and xserver logfiles but they don't show any error messages. I'm at a complete loss as to what going on here and could use some help.

Edit: I'm on kernel 2.6.26-2-686.

Another edit: Silly me, I hadn't looked in older log files. Ofcourse it doesn't throw up error mesages now because I'm now using the nv driver. Here are some old error messages from /var/log/gdm
Code:
(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)
error setting MTRR (base = 0xb0000000, size = 0x08000000, type = 1) Invalid argument (22)
And
Code:

(EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libglx.so
(EE) Failed to load module "glx" (loader failed, 7)
SELinux: Disabled on system, not enabling in X server
error setting MTRR (base = 0xb0000000, size = 0x08000000, type = 1) Invalid argument (22)
