Could you try to create a new xorg.conf with the
In process of rebooting, will forward next batch of error logs and will try what you asked. When I looked I could not find an xorg.conf file
Errors on screen:
(EE) NVIDIA(0) Failed to load the NVIDIA Kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0) ***Aborting***
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
I am clicking on OK button
My options are now to
1 Run Ubuntu in low-graphics mode for just one session
2 Reconfigure graphics
3 Troubleshoot the error
4 Exit to console login
This is where I was before and I ended up reloading the OS to get a usable system.
I am going with option 1.
Screen now says:
"There already appears to e an X server running on display :0. Should another display number be tried? Answering no will cause GDM to attempt starting the server on :0 again."
I know this will not work.
"(You can change consoles by pressing Ctrl-Alt plus a function key, such as Ctrl-Alt-F7 to go to console 7. Xervers usually run on consoles 7 and higher."
based on past experiance I will switch to anohter console now, by clicking on <yes>.
The system responds with:
The specified display number was busy, so this server was started on display :1.
I clicked on <OK>
Got login GUI, logged-in and got low resolution 800x600 Ubuntu desktop.
I opened a terminal window and ran nvidia-xconfig and am rebooting now.
Once the reboot is done
reboot faster than I thought, More errors on the screen:
(EE) Failed to load module "type1" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) Failed to load module "freetype" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load the NVIDIA Kernal module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting***
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none havea usable configuration
I will click on OK and then I will bring up FF on the ubuntu system and send more details and log files.
(from my windows pc)
Is this too much detail?
