Right clock browse should work with Vista fine, BUT what may of happened is the.avi filetype is messed up or missing, which can happen. You'll have to get into your control panel and into set associations (just use the search thingy to find it. It's under default programs. There you can find .avi and see if changing it there helps.

Another option is to run the media player with admin rights and see if it has options to take over itself. Probably wont work, but worth a shot.
