dmesg | grep agp returns nothing. I can load the agpgart module, but only with the command:
modprobe agpgart agp_try_unsupported=1
However, as I said, getting agpgart working isn't huge on my list of priorities, as it seems to be working fine with the nvidia agp drivers.
What's really bizarre is that sometimes I still get that blank screen and freezing. It took me a while to determine exactly what causes it, and frankly, it doesn't make much sense to me. After a lot of testing, here's what I've determined:
1. If I turn on the machine from a cold state and directly load linux, I get the blank screen and freezing as mentioned earlier.
2. If instead I boot to Windows or an older kernel that doesn't load X, and then do a warm reboot into linux kernel 2.4.22, everything works fine.
Can anyone think of a reason why this would happen? It is slightly annoying having to boot the machine twice every time to get it running.
