This seems like the perfect solution! So I am trying this out but I ran into some strange snags...

First when I set the video output to vdpau and something covers the player I get a permanent gray shape covering the video and if I scroll down and back up it's all gray... Though xv output works...

Second, when I add the vdpau codecs to .mplayer/config it doesn't play at all...
