The only thing non-standard that I did was export the TV's EDID and then call it from the xorg.conf. That way if the TV is unplugged or something it still will set everything up correctly.
What command did you use to obtain and save the TV's edid?
xorg.conf is letting the driver pick a mode, which one is it actually using?
