Post Installing from source

You need divx4linux (optional)
tar -zxvf divx4linux-std-20030428.tar.gz
cd divx4linux-std-20030428/

download mplayer from
and the win32codecs from
1.Copy the win32codecs (after tar -jxvf extralite.tar.bz2) in /usr/lib/win32/ (You need to make that dir first mkdir -p /usr/lib/win32/)
2.Go in the Mplayer dir (After tar -jxvf MPlayer-1.0pre2.tar.bz2 ) and do a :
./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-gui ;make ;make install
3. Install the default skin (else won't work)
tar -jxvf default-1.7.tar.bz2
and copy the all default dir into /usr/share/mplayer/Skin

If ok then do ./mplayer movie.avi -fs
or gmplayer (visual)
Here is a a bash script (You can run it with sh as root)
# first install divx4linux
tar -zxvf divx4linux-std-20030428.tar.gz
cd divx4linux-20030428/
cd ..

#then get mplayer source code and compile it
mkdir -p /usr/lib/win32/
tar -jxvf extralite.tar.bz2
tar -jxvf MPlayer-1.0pre2.tar.bz2
mv extralite /usr/lib/win32/
cd MPlayer-1.0pre2
./configure --prefix=/usr --with-codecsdir=/usr/lib/win32 --enable-gui ;make ;make install
cd ..
mkdir /usr/share/mplayer/Skin
tar -jxvf default-1.7.tar.bz2
mv default /usr/share/mplayer/Skin/default
