It might be easier fraps, because it does video/audio together. You're still gonna have to recompress the video (because it will be huge). You can fire up virtualdub to make it smaller. If the main focus is for audio only, then whatever is happening on the video side of things doesn't matter.
One clever way of doing it is just use sound recorder to record what is happening in-game. Then take a generic video file, like a music video, and then use virtualdub to mux them together. The nice thing is that if you plan on doing several tracks, you can use that same video with the different tracks.
