I'm going to be building a new system with the Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H with my current GTX 280. I'm debating on whether I should use one of my 8800GTX's as a Physx card.
Looking at the motherboard manual, the first PCI-E slot runs at 16x while the second PCI-E slot runs at 8x. Now, if I install the 280 in the first and the 8800gtx in the second, they both share the bandwidth effectively putting both at x8.
The question is would this have any adverse effect on the performance of the GTX 280 rather than helping the system?

First and foremost- PCI-e 1.0 vs 2.0:
PCI-e 2.0 x16 is roughly equivalent to PCI-e 1.0 x32.
OR
PCI-e 2.0 x8 is roughly equivalent to PCI-e 1.0 x16
Now, the 280 is a PCI-e 2.0 part. The 8800GTX is a PCI-e 1.0 part.
Thus... you wont notice anything.

In short, it'll work just wonderfully.
