This indicates that some form of problem occurred on the GPU as was recovered from. Sometimes the recovery process isn't perfect, and can subsequently lead to the kind of corruption you're seeing.

I assume these XID messages also appear right when you make a VDPAU window full-screen?
No.

Can you provide full details on which app and version you're running (well, I can probably guess the app...:-), the file you're playing, method of switching to full-screen, desktop environment (e.g. compositing manager or not) etc. Thanks.
- Kubuntu 10.04
- Kaffeine-0.8.8 + xine-lib-1.2
- Composite extension enabled (well, not disabled), but no compmgr.
- Fullscreen method : http://doc.qt.nokia.com/3.3/qwidget.html#showFullScreen

I don't remember what i was playing each time it happened, but IIRC the last time (when i made screenshot and bug-report) it was some DVB channel.

If you need more infos, maybe you could give me a complete list of required step/infos and i will follow it next time it happens (if any
