Default Re: Nvidia GeForce GT 220 + Ubuntu 9.10 = No audio over HDMI?

This is my first post to the group. I've attempted to use all the information I could find to avoid asking "dumb questions" and wasting everyones time but after having to reinstall a couple times, here it goes. This is what I've been able to accomplish so far:

I've updated the alsa driver to 1.0.23

I've tried the nvidia drivers 185, 190, and 195 (currently have 190 running)

I have a pny gt220 that shows up in aplay as such:

chuck@ubuntu:~$ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog]

Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I've tried to follow the wiki (http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW-TO_set_up_HDMI...) but I don't fully understand it. I attempted to edit the sound.conf file only to find that there wasn't one. I created the file but I wasn't sure what, if anything, I should be adding so I added the line "enable_msi=0 probe_mask=0xffff,0xfff2" but that had no effect. I stopped there hoping to avoid any further mistakes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
