I'm glad kirby took it. They're doing something different with the graphics and it's something that besides kinda like little big planet, it's not been seen. Tech5 and Cryengine 2 are impressive but it's nothing we haven't already seen and I think for once they're judging the graphics quality not on how many polygons it can crank out but more on style and visual appeal.
For me personally, I would enjoy looking at crysis or rage any day over kirby but games with that more artistic approach are really nice to see in their own way and I don't feel like I'm missing anything when I go from playing stalker or dead space or mass effect to 3D dot game heroes or little big planet.
There is a lot of artistry in more realistic games too, people seem to forget that. I do agree that trying new things is good though and games like Borderlands and Mirror's Edge look amazing with their stylized graphics and tech specs combined.
