Re: Nvidia vs. nouveau
On the same vain, sort of, I just installed ubuntu 10.04, and have a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440 with AGP8X card, when I downloaded the suggested driver and activated it,
I could change the shadow on the mouse pointer and all sorts of other things, but my choices for resolution were 320x240 and hold on to your hat 640x480. Pretty much useless!!!
The generic Ubuntu nouveau driver gives me a choice of 640x480, 800x600, and 1024,x768. I would like to have a resolution of 1280x1024 if possible.
The computer (and card) are on a dual boot system with Windows XP, which in this aspect work flawlessly.
When I run xrandr with the 96 driver installed, this is what I get...
vic@vic-desktop:~$ xrandr -q
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 240, current 640 x 480, maximum 640 x 480
default connected 640x480+0+0 0mm x 0mm
Other xrandr commands are not working
Please help me
