Sorry, I cannot help you with Ubuntu, I'm using Fedora.
Read all of those threads, thanks for looking them up. They weren't very encouraging.
I understand fine about Fedora, thanks for the help you've been anyway.
Anyways I'm gonna try to get Jockey working, then try the different driver versions, and if it doesn't work I'll try following this:
