Default Re: nvidia drivers and ubuntu 10.10

Hi,

I am also like you but facing a lot of issues with installing the NVIDIA drivers on a system configuration having dual cards / more than one graphics adapter.

As mlord rightly pointed out, pls change the following line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash vmalloc=256M"

That should fix the VMALLOC issue.

But however after installing through this method, the display does not show up in your laptop screen and it hangs up in
"CHECKING BATTERY STATE..."

In that case, it means the NVIDIA driver couldnt find the SCREEN to display what is actually supported by the graphics card. You have to use an external monitor or change the settings in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. I am currently facing this issue and trying to figure out how to get this working.

Once i figure it out, i will post it here. Hope what i have said, helps

AJ
