Yeah, recommendations are for a 2500K and DDR3 1600 RAM on sandy bridge.
You get some limitation with 1333 that go away on 1600. Little to gain after that.
Get a 64GB SSD with the $100 you save on the 2500K. This will speed up the system a lot more.
You can get another $50 on the CPU if you get it from microcenter too... They are the cheapest on intel CPUs ($180 on the 2500K).
As the universe is curved, there cannot be a straight answer...
