Default Re: GT430 On Linux (Slackware64 13.1) not recognized by ALSA

OK I ditched KDE alltogether because I had too many troubles with it...And considering my sound issues are far from over so I need to repost here.

Like I said, I am now using XFCE. because stephen warren suggested to de-activate the onboard sound controller (ATI) I did. now, aplay -l gives:

Code:
bash-4.1# aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 7: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 8: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 9: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
I have NO .asoundrc & NO /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf files...

I tried to test the card with

Code:
speaker-test -c 2 -r 48000 -D hw:X,Y
But for X,Y, none of 0,3 0,7 0,8 0,9 will output test sound... They all seem to run without issues as I dont see errors in the terminal but I cant hear the white noise...

MPlayer (both gmplayer & the terminal version) are saying

Code:
AO_ALSA: Mixer attach default error: Invalid argument
. The box is totally mute. Cant get sound anywhere...

I dont get it.

Any help appreciated...

thanks!
