Default Re: Linux, Laptop, GeForce 8600M GT, dual-head nvidia and two external monitors

OK, the problem has been solved... the fix cost is about $5000...

I bought a new laptop. Actually it is not a laptop, but a PC-desktop replacement Clevo X7200, fully loaded that has GTX 485M (this is for work, I need mobility and don't want to sync up my workspaces)

The interesting fact that even with that video card, Ubuntu 10.04 and the latest official nvidia drivers, the set up with two external monitors (DFP-1 & DFP-2 or CRT-0 & DFT-1[2]) did not work... I was really upset!!!! Actually it worked, but not with monitors native resolution 1920x1200 and 1920x1200

I decided to do the final check and update X-server and nvidia drivers from ppa, and here you go, it is working with default xorg.config and nv-control!!!

here is my setup:
  • laptop: Clevo X7200(EUROCOM Panther 2.0 or Sager NP7280)
  • video card: GTX 485M
  • two external monitors: Dell E248WFP (1920x1200 and 1920x1200), connected by HDMI(DFP-1) and DVI(DFP-2)
  • OS: Ubuntu 10.04 (x64)
  • ppa for nvidia drivers 270.26 and xserver 1.8.2: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates

I'm going to try the same nvidia drivers and xserver on my old sony laptop (8600M GT)...
