Re: Bug Report: Hard crash (freeze) with nVidia GTX 460
I've been having hell on earth with this bug. I have a G210 GPU, so yes I know I'm abit off topic. Though I have seen several reports of Nvidia cards having this problem. I'm posting here to make Nvidia aware that this problem is easy to reproduce.
Here comes my system details (custom build):
Motherboard = ASUS P5W DH Deluxe
GPU = Gigabyte GeForce G210 512MB OC (GV-N210OC-512I)
OS = Bodhi Linux 1.0.0 stable with ecomorph (compiz-like)
uname -a = Linux main-pc 2.6.35-28-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP Tue Mar 1 14:40:58 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux
NVIDIA Driver Version: 270.29
Server Version Number:11.0
Server Vendor String: The X.Org Foundation
Server Vendor Version: 1.9.0 (10900000)
NV-CONTROL Version: 1.26
Output from dmesg when the problem manifest it self:

This is happening both under the stable driver and the latest beta I'm running now.
Also running 3D games under wine wothout anything else running in the background or watching a DVD or avi-video will run smooth.
But as soon as I run ANY browser (Modiri, Chromium and Firefox), specially when tabs are reopened since the last session seems to be a greate reproducer of the problem.
Flashplayer 10 was though the first source of crash, with the same error output and video-freezing. But, disabling hardware acceleration stopped flash from freezing my computer.
LXterminal stops functioning too, I have transparent effect on that. xtem on the other side is not affected, xterm together with a new tty are my only console access to che behaivior while in this error state.
Quick fix so far is as another user stated it in the forum:
Change the PoweMizer setting from "Adaptive" to "Maximum performance" is giving me a paus from the freezings, but on the other side I can see hight temperatures on my GPU.
This is clearly a bug, the fix above is a dirty one in my opinion.
I see forward to get rid of this problem in future updates of the driver.
This problem is not reproducible running opensource drivers nouveau, graphic is then no issue at all. But then I lose 3D support.
