What is the status of this bug in the most recent driver? The patch seems not to work on 270.x drivers. I have quite similar symptoms while trying to activate my second 7300 card on ubuntu 10.04. 1 card/monitor works perfectly, while adding the second card, it stops without starting X.

kernel 2.6.32-31, x86_64
