thanks for your detailed answers. They made me investigate the market for Nvidia
cards again. With BaseMosaic there are several interesting options for my use
case. I need/want DVI-D (Dual Link) which effectively rules out DisplayPort
since I'd need an (quite) expensive active converter for this. What's more I
want a passively cooled card to keep the noise level down.
Currently I am looking at a PNY QuadroFX 380, GeForce 9500 GT, 256MB GDDR3, 2x
DVI (VCQFX380-PCIE-PB) which is actively cooled though. However, it takes only
34W at max so i might exchange the active cooler with a passive one.
I'll try that as soon as time permits and report back here.
