Default Re: Call for testers: HDMI pass-through

I initially tried this test on a ION1 based system with the following setup:

receiver: Yamaha RX-V1065
card: ION1
kernel: 2.6.33-8-RT
alsa: 1.0.24
nvidia: 256.52

I configured my .asoundrc as per post #1.

I noted that when I did run the test I got noise on all channels and my AVR reported 8ch PCM at 192kHz.

I then read that the ION1 doesn't support passthrough. I then built an ION2 base system and tried again with the following setup:

receiver: Yamaha RX-V1065
card: ION2
kernel: 2.6.38-10-generic
alsa: 1.0.24
nvidia: 275.21

Nothing would work until I tried the following:

aplay -D hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=1,AES1=0x06 -c8 -fs16_le -r192000 dts.spdif

Then I got noise on all speakers and my AVR reported 8ch PCM at 192kHz.

The question I have to ask, is that is this actually bitstreaming the audio or is it being sent as LPCM? I'm somewhat confused as to why I get the same result with both GPU's.
